All politicians lie. Informed voters? For all of its self-righteous acceptance speeches about smashing the patriarchy and diversity, when Hollywood has a moment to entertain you, they’ll seize it. When the chips are down and they needed a viral moment, they didn’t hesitate to turn to Trump’s ex-press secretary to get it. Since my last column, headlined ‘Why I won’t vote’, I’ve received hundreds of emails from others who feel politically homeless. The woke purity tests went mainstream. Is that likely? That’s what makes them politicians. All of them. In America, at any given time, approximately half the population believes the lie and the other half doesn’t. This is the best we’ve got? It’s basically showbiz rewarding itself for finally being “woke,” and I find the level of smug, self-satisfaction nauseating. I’m no military genius, but when the alpha males start retreating, it’s a pretty good indicator that conditions are deteriorating. I felt like I’d been lied to for almost four years.’.
He is incapable of ‘rising to the occasion’. Perhaps this is just me being privileged and nostalgic for a time when things were simple or perhaps it’s just me realizing that money is what runs the show. The President’s Constitution Day speech was a doughty defense of America from the slanders of its enemies domestic, but it was also an uncanny, if wholly inadvertent, defense of liberalism.

I recognize the limitations of anecdotal evidence. Our betters shut down the engine that drives commerce, made oodles in the stock market, gave us $1,200 and basically told us ‘Good luck’, like we were all partaking in a real-life version of The Hunger Games. I even heard from a guy who hasn’t voted since Nader but is coming out to support Trump. Fascism or communism? What I do take issue with is today’s host of journos and bloggers clutching their pearls about how damaging it is to have Spicer appear on the Emmys. Even me. The upcoming election perfectly reflects the dire condition we are in as a nation. Most days, I find it too upsetting to face head on. “The Handmaid’s Tale” would have most certainly been good, but if Hillary were president, it wouldn’t have packed the same punch of visceral terror fueled by a p-ssy-hat-wearing nation, high on fear-mongering blogs about our dystopian future. Hollywood is just as complicit in turning this country into a nation of brain-dead morons determined to vote against their own interests as are the partisan pundits, the mainstream media, the NFL, the liberal colleges, the failing school systems and we, the lazy voters. They chose trashy, cheap non-scripted sensationalism over thoughtful, scripted content because it was less expensive to produce. They shoved reality TV and “Jersey Shore” and the Kardashians and, yes, “The Apprentice” down our throats for a decade. Almost every Democrat who is voting for Trump has a personal story about being ostracized, shamed or losing a close friend or family member over politics. Trump might not be the president we want, but he’s the president we deserve. Then the power changes hands, the pendulum swings and suddenly you’re on the side defending the lie instead of fighting it. From what I can tell, this year the Emmys were all about putting politics over content (even more than usual), which is fine.
They’re irrelevant to everyone but the blogosphere and Hollywood.

For many former Democrats, the ‘mostly peaceful protests’ were the pivotal moment that they abandoned the mainstream media and started seeking out other perspectives.
