convergence goth festival 2020

Convergence is an event where friends, new and old, unite for a weekend of dark music and other goth related activities. Convergence (sometimes referenced as C*) is the annual net.goth party run by and for members of the alt.gothic and alt.gothic.fashion newsgroup, and other related Usenet newsgroups. The location for each year voted on by the net.goth community in response to proposals by volunteer committees.

Started in 1995, it is a chance for net.goths and others who normally only meet on the Internet to meet. Committees typically consist of residents of the host city, a large percentage of whom are expected to be active participants on alt.gothic or related net.goth groups. Convergence (sometimes referenced as C*) is the annual net.goth party run by and for members of the alt.gothic and alt.gothic.fashion newsgroup, and other related Usenet newsgroups. We will be donating the first month of each new vendor & artist subscription to the Austin Justice Coalition. In 1994, the geographically disparate denizens of the Usenet group, alt.gothic, decided that at long last, it was time to meet IRL. In the twenty-five years since, it has become an annual party—a family reunion of sorts—and has grown to include members of the myriad Gothic/Industrial online and social media groups it spawned, as well as the broader worldwide Goth community—“friends of friends,” as it were. Events at Convergence typically included live bands and club nights, bazaars, fashion, art shows, panels, and tours of goth-themed locales in the host city.

Collectively, they decided that Chicago was just the right place, and lo, the first Convergence was born. Ticket holders will be refunded soon, and the reservations for those who’ve booked within our hotel block will be automatically cancelled. Some planning committees have made efforts to expand the scope of the event; while others have made similar efforts to restrict advertising to predominantly the founding net.goth communities. Now in its twenty-sixth year, Louisville, Kentucky’s winning bid means that we get to bring you something altogether new, and yet still, entirely familiar.
